The Election Special display marks the Frome and Somerton by-election held on 20 July.
It includes material relating to four past elections in the town, in 1832, 1856, 1876 and 1945. Through some of the original documents the Museum holds, you can learn about how three by-elections took place in three years, all won by different members of the same family, an election won by just one vote and the tragic suicide of one of the losing candidates, Mavis Tate, a pioneering Conservative woman MP who campaigned tirelessly for women’s rights and better working conditions for all.
